The plugin works in two modes: internal PNG mode and external program mode. Internal PNG mode is suitable for simpler projects, while external program mode is recommended for more complex projects that require advanced features like HDR and non-sRGB color spaces.
The plugin is officially compatible with Krita v5.1.x~v5.2.x and OpenRaster v0.0.2~v0.0.6, Baseline Intent. It is designed to be easy to use and requires no runtime code to be added to your builds.

Internal PNG mode:
- Animation is not supported
- HDR is not supported
- Only the flattened image is read, so the merged image must be available inside the file
- Appropriate only for images on the sRGB color space
External program mode:
- Enabling a Krita installation is required to export animation frames and for the manual image converter tool
- For ORA files, you can use Krita or other compatible programs like LazPaint
- Batch importation with Krita is slower, so the plugin will only use this mode when it detects that it's necessary or more accurate than the internal PNG
